(Please read carefully the following lab intro and application requirements):
We are recruiting highly motivated graduate students to join Goda Lab in the School of Science at the University of Tokyo or the School of Medicine at Tohoku University and take part in one of the world’s most ambitious challenges in longevity science: XPRIZE Healthspan. In 2026, Goda Lab was selected as a Top 10 Finalist in XPRIZE Healthspan, an international competition aimed at developing transformative technologies that restore age-related declines in muscle, cognitive, and immune function.
Our team is developing “super extracellular vesicles (EVs)” by harnessing the power of nanotechnology to engineer EVs for enhanced targeting and therapeutic function, with the goal of advancing rejuvenation and healthy longevity. Our preclinical studies have demonstrated highly promising efficacy and safety, and our next major challenge is to translate this technology into human clinical studies.
We are looking for students who want to work at the frontier of:
🧬 Rejuvenation & longevity biology
🔬 Extracellular vesicle engineering
🧫 Stem cells & regenerative medicine
💊 Therapeutic development & drug delivery
🏥 Translational research & clinical studies
🤖 AI, bioengineering & high-throughput biotechnology
This is not simply a conventional graduate research project. Students will have the opportunity to participate directly in an international effort toward the 2030 XPRIZE Healthspan Final, working across basic science, engineering, preclinical validation, clinical translation, and potentially commercialization. Our ambition is bold: to develop a scientifically rigorous rejuvenation technology capable of meaningfully extending human healthspan and to translate it from the laboratory to society.
If you are excited about longevity, rejuvenation, regenerative medicine, bioengineering, or clinical translation, and want your graduate research to tackle one of humanity’s biggest challenges, we would love to hear from you.
为加快录取流程,我们希望学生满足以下最低要求:
👨🎓To facilitate the admission process, we expect the students to meet the following minimum requirements:
(1) English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 90+ or IELTS 6.5+ or CET-6 580+, or other equivalent certification with mandatory English Zoom interview capability.
(2) GPA 3.5+ / 4.0 in key courses in Cell/Molecular Biology, Stem Cells/Immunology, Nanomedicine/Drug Delivery, or Bioengineering.
(3) Applicants will be required to submit a formal English CV, English transcripts, and a short English statement (200–300 words) explaining how their background aligns with our Super EV / XPRIZE project and our lab research focus.
(4) All interested applicants must meet the minimum requirements above, and when contacting us, the email subject should follow a format of “[PhD/MS Application] Your Name - Major - University Name”.
Please contact us (goda@chem.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp) if you are interested, and feel free to share this post with talented students who may want to join this journey. Let’s engineer the future of healthy longevity.
